The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii
Laryea Afotey Agbo, has urged teachers to support children in their quest for
quality education.
“Modern lifestyles has brought about
many vices which do not help in the development of the youth in society and the
nation as a whole so as teachers, assume the role of parents in the schools and
bring wayward children back to the classroom,” he added.
He said this at the opening ceremony of the
20th Ghana Association of Business Education Teachers’ (GABET) Annual
National Conference and Workshop in Accra yesterday.
The four-day conference and workshop on
the theme; “The Place of Secretaryship in Modern Technology,” was attended by
over 300 members from the 10 regions of the country.
GABET was established to offer quality
education in business studies to students to become disciplined and competent
business professionals to meet the job requirements of the business world.
Mr.
Agbo stressed that secretaryship was at the heart of every organization since secretaries
were the first point of contact for a company.
He explained that secretaryship today
had taken a different dimension that entailed all administrative details of
running an office as a whole.
“As a nation it is time we moved away
from the traditional methods of doing things and apply science and technology in
solving our numerous problems,” he advised.
Mr. Agbo said industrialization could be
achieved only if technology driven measures were implemented to enhance growth
and provide the momentum to ensure the nations global competitiveness.
He urged that Ghanaians should take
technology policies serious and apply modern and simple technology in their
daily spheres of office practice.
“If we are desirous of consolidating our
middle income status, then, we must consider technology applications as part of
our daily lives which will have a multiplier effect on our daily lives,” he
noted.
The National President of GABET, Gordon
Osei Marfo, charged the government to address social vices such as bribery,
corruption and internet fraud since they had negative impact on businesses and
national development.
He said more teachers should be given
Information Communication Technology (ICT) training to avoid mishandling of the
subject by unqualified teachers.
Mr. Marfo entreated members to use
decorous language in the election period in order to protect lives and preserve
the interpretation of the association and the country.
